Health and Wellbeing
At Smart Tots Early Education, we recognise that nutrition plays a vital role in early childhood development and growth. As a result we emphasise healthy eating for children.
Wellbeing goes further than the lunch plate. A strong sense of wellbeing is one of the five learning outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework, so rest, sun safety, hygiene and feeling secure are part of every day at all three of our centres.

Fresh food
We believe good food is an important part of helping children learn, grow and feel their best. Our fresh, nourishing meals and snacks are thoughtfully prepared to provide a variety of flavours, textures and wholesome ingredients, making mealtimes a positive part of each child’s day.

Meal times
Meal times are also excellent learning opportunities that are used to teach skills like socialising, sharing and hygiene. As soon as it is developmentally appropriate, children are transitioned from high chairs to a shared eating table where they can interact with others. Children are given support with serving food and feeding themselves and are also taught to exercise their independence at meal times. Children are never forced to eat; rather, they choose to eat when they are hungry and ready, with child-sized portions that they are comfortable with.

Our Goal
Healthy lifestyles
Active, growing bodies need healthy food for fuel. Bearing this in mind, our menus offer a range of delicious and excellent food. We cater for the individual and cultural needs of children in our care. An important goal of healthy eating for children at Smart Tots is to encourage young children to establish good patterns of eating. We hope that this will have a lasting, positive impact on their lifestyles when they grow up.
Empowering Children
A day at the table
A sample of what children eat across a day. Menus change with the seasons andare displayed at each centre.
Morning Tea
A little pause to refuel! Morning tea gives children the energy to keep exploring, playing and discovering throughout their busy morning.
Lunch
A nourishing lunch helps little bodies grow and curious minds stay energised. It’s also a lovely opportunity for children to explore different foods and enjoy mealtimes together.
Afternoon Tea
As the afternoon unfolds, a wholesome snack helps children recharge for more play, learning and little adventures before home time.
Caring for the
whole child
The everyday routines that keep children healthy, safe and settled.
Allergies and
dietary needs
We thoughtfully cater to the individual, dietary and cultural needs of every child in our care. Our centres are nut-aware and egg-aware, helping us create safe, inclusive and welcoming environments for every child and family.
Sun safety
Outdoor play is an important part of our curriculum. We apply sunscreen throughout the day, ensure children wear sun-safe hats outdoors, and monitor weather conditions to provide safe, comfortable opportunities for play while avoiding periods of excessive heat and direct sun.
Rest and sleep
After a morning filled with play, learning and activities, we take time to slow down. Following lunch, children are offered a quiet and restful period, with opportunities for sleep and relaxation. If a child needs to rest at another time during the day, we make sure they have a comfortable space to do so.
Hygiene & illness
Handwashing and good hygiene are part of everyday life, from before meals and after using the bathroom to outdoor and messy play. We maintain clean, hygienic spaces and help children develop healthy habits. If your child becomes unwell, we will contact you promptly and follow our Infectious Diseases Policy to help protect the wellbeing of our children, families and educators.
Allied health visits, on site
Appointments that would normally mean a morning off workcan happen during your child’s day at the centre.
We work with independent allied health and community providers who visit our centres, including speech pathologists and occupational therapists. We also offer dental visits and occasional on-site haircuts as part of our family-friendly centre experiences. These services are provided by independent practitioners and are not Smart Tots clinical services.
