WHY CHOOSE US

OUR PHILOSOPHY

CHILD SAFETY

Alexandra Hills

Hello and Welcome

Where Smart Tots began

Alexandra Hills is where it all started. We opened here in July 2016, and a decade on, we're still caring for the younger siblings of our very first families, which tells you most of what you need to know.

You'll find us on Cambridge Drive, right next to the Alexandra Hills Shopping Village, so a drop-off can fold neatly into a grocery run. We're an easy trip from Capalaba, Thornlands, Cleveland, Wellington Point and Birkdale.

Ninety-five places across five rooms means we can take your child from six weeks old all the way through to their first day of Prep, with the same familiar faces greeting them at the door the whole way.

Enrolments Are Open

Your child’s safety is our first priority

At the heart of everything we do is an unwavering commitment to child safety. It is a responsibility that shapes our decisions, our everyday practices and every interaction with children.

Our educators remain attentive to children's voices, behaviours, emotions and individual needs, creating environments where children feel safe, respected, heard and supported.

Through thoughtful supervision, strong safeguarding practices and a culture where children's wellbeing always comes first, we work to ensure that every child is protected, their boundaries are respected, and their right to feel safe is upheld every single day.

Childcare and early education in

Alexandra Hills

At Smart Tots Alexandra Hills, our programs are built around one belief, the earlier we understand a child, the further we can take them.

We work alongside families and allied health professionals to identify each child’s strengths and needs early, because what happens in these years shapes everything that follows.

Early Intervention
From The Start

Identifying and supporting a child’s individual needs early can change the course of their learning. Our educators are trained to notice the small things and to act on them. Where a child needs additional support, we partner directly with speech pathologists, occupational therapists and other allied health providers,  so that therapy and daily learning reinforce each other rather than running in parallel. Families stay involved at every step.

Reggio Emilia inspired learning

Our Programs

How learning happens here

The first 1000 days, which is the period from birth to age two lays the foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing. Our nursery and toddler rooms are designed around that: responsive routines, consistent educators, and unhurried time to explore.

Our programs are Reggio Emilia-inspired and built on the Early Years Learning Framework,  the national curriculum for early childhood. In practice, that means we start from a simple belief: children are capable, curious and full of ideas.

01

Our job isn't to fill them up with facts. It's to notice what's genuinely captivating them and build something worthwhile around it.

02

The environment does a lot of that work. Rooms are set up to invite investigation open ended materials, natural light, spaces that ask a question rather than give an answer.

03

Educators document what children discover and use it to plan what comes next.

Across every room, we’re working towards the five EYLF Learning Outcomes:

children who know who they are and feel confident speaking up

Belonging to their family, their room and their neighborhood

healthy bodies, settled minds, and the resilience to bounce back

curiosity, persistence and the
willingness to have a go

language, listening, storytelling and early literacy

Families receive ongoing updates on their child's learning through daily communication with educators and timely documentation of progress on our Storypark App.

Extra Curricular Activities

Where Little Interests Grow Into Big Passions

Alongside the everyday program, children at Smart Tots Alexandra Hills, take part in specialist experiences that are enriching and meaningful.

Gardening

Little hands get busy as children plant, water and nurture their gardens, discovering where food comes from while developing a love for nature, caring for living things and watching their efforts grow.

Kindy Science

Big questions, little scientists! Through hands-on experiments and playful discoveries, children explore how the world works, spark their curiosity and develop a love of learning through investigation, imagination and wonder.

Yoga

Through gentle movement, mindful breathing and moments of stillness, yoga helps children build body awareness, confidence and emotional balance while learning to find calm in their busy little worlds.

Music

Through music, rhythm and movement, children explore their creativity, express themselves and discover the joy of making music together, one little beat at a time.

Little steps today. Big adventures tomorrow.

SCHOOL READINESS

Being ready for school is so much more than knowing te alphabet. Our Kindergarten Program prepares children for Prep by building four things that matter most in a classroom:

01

Learning how to learn

asking questions, persisting through difficulty, having a go without fear of getting it wrong.

02

Getting along with others

sharing, negotiating, resolving conflict, joining a group

03

Self-help and independence

managing a lunchbox, a bathroom trip, a jumper, a big feeling

04

Belonging to a community

understanding they're part of something bigger than themselves

Meet Our
Centre Director

"I am particularly passionate about the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life..."

With more than 30 years of experience in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector, I bring a strong passion for leadership, mentoring and supporting quality outcomes for children, families and educators.

I am particularly passionate about the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and the significant role early childhood professionals play in shaping a child’s confidence, wellbeing, independence and future development.

As a leader, I believe my role extends beyond supporting children. I am equally committed to guiding, mentoring and empowering the educators I work alongside each day. I value building strong, respectful teams where educators feel supported, confident and encouraged to continue developing their own skills and knowledge.

Even after more than three decades in the sector, I still come to work each day ready to learn something new. I believe strong leadership is about continuing to reflect, grow and learn alongside your team, while also sharing the experience and knowledge gained throughout your career.

My greatest professional focus has always been to create environments where children feel safe, valued and capable, and where they are supported to leave our service as confident, independent little people ready to embrace the future.

For me, leadership in Early Childhood Education is about leading with purpose, supporting people and always keeping children at the heart of every decision we make.

Our Educators

The Educators Who
Make It Work

Our team is qualified, experienced and, importantly,  has been here a long time. Families who started with us in 2016 still recognise faces at the door.

Every educator holds at least a nationally recognised early childhood qualification as required under the National Quality Framework, with Diploma-qualified and Bachelor-qualified team members across the centre. All hold current Blue Cards and up-to-date first aid, CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis training.

We also run regular professional development led by specialists in the field, so our educators stay current with the best thinking in early childhood, including our director's and educational leaders' ongoing training in practice and emergent curriculum.

But qualifications only tell half the story. What truly makes the difference is the depth of understanding our educators develop with each child. They notice the little things, the subtle changes in mood, the familiar habits, the behaviours that tell a bigger story, and the individual needs that may not always find words.

They know when a child needs a little extra reassurance, when to offer space, when to celebrate a small victory and when simply being close is enough. It’s this genuine connection, built through trust, patience and time, that helps children feel truly seen, understood and secure, and gives families the confidence of knowing their little one is in caring, capable hands.

A team that makes it work
